Vintage Tipple Stakes

As you may have guessed we’re not the only tipple in town…so dust off your finest duds and top hat because if you’re a competitive horse racing aficionado then this springtime equine event is the one you will not want to miss.

The Vintage Tipple Stakes is a Listed flat horse race in Ireland open to thoroughbred fillies and mares aged four or older. It is run at Gowran Park in County Kilkenny, Ireland over a distance of 1 mile and 6 furlongs (2,816 meters), and it is scheduled to take place each year in May.

The race was introduced as a new Listed race in 2018. It is named after Vintage Tipple, an Irish-trained filly who won the 2003 Irish St. Leger.

Horse racing in Ireland has ancient roots and dates back to at least the early 17th century. The earliest recorded race meeting took place at the Curragh, a vast open plain in County Kildare, in 1668.
