Mel Gibson

Mel Colm-Cille Gerard Gibson is an American actor, film director, producer, and screenwriter who was born on January 3, 1956, in Peekskill, New York, USA. While he was born in the United States, he became a dual citizen of the United States and Australia. Mel and his family moved to Australia in the late 1960s, settling in New South Wales, where Mel’s paternal grandmother, contralto opera singer Eva Mylott, was born.
Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson was the sixth born of eleven children of Hutton Gibson, a railroad brakeman, and Anne Patricia (maiden name Reilly) Gibson (who died in December of 1990). His mother was Irish, from County Longford, Ireland while his American-born father is also of Irish descent. His mother Anne Reilly was from Ardagh, Co. Longford, Ireland and her local church was St. Mel’s Cathedral and so the world’s favorite actor earned his first name from a Catholic saint.
