Ireland’s Sweetheart – Amy Huberman!
She’s an Actress, Writer, Comedian AND wife to an Irish Rugby hero! She’s Ireland’s Sweetheart! Amy Huberman was born and raised in the Cabinteely area of Dublin, Ireland. A country that which to this day absolutely loves her! She has two brothers and she was the middle child of this Irish-Catholic, Polish-Jewish family. Amy’s work includes The Bachelor Weekend (2013), Finding Joy (2018) and Threesome (2011). Amy was educated at Loreto College, Foxrock, Ireland and she took classes in the Betty Ann Norton Drama School.
Aftercompleting drama school, Amy attended University College Dublin studying to become a social worker, but once she got the acting bug, her decision had been made.
Amy’s acting career began in the early 2000s when Irish audiences were first introduced to the young, cute and approachable actress in 2002 where she starred in an RTE GAA TV drama series called On Home Ground. The plot was about a GAA club situated in a small idyllic Irish town. The team is anticipating a win at the country championship, a title which up till now has been out of reach for the team.
Amy’s acting career absolutely blossomed from there. She went onto star in The Clinic for seven seasons from 2003 until 2009. She played the character Daisy on the show and was nominated for an IFTA (Irish Film & Television Awards) for Best Supporting Actress in 2008, 2009 and 2010 for her portrayal of the character. Then in 2017, Amy starred in RTE’s Striking Out as attorney Tara Rafferty, where she walked away with the IFTA for Best Actress.
Regarding what life is like as an actress Amy has expressed how challenging it can be, saying “I am not sitting here whining about life. It is just the reality of the situation and it is important to paint the landscape as it is. Who has a perfect life? “The flip side is that I love what I do and I feel lucky to get to do what I do because I really enjoy it. But who knows what will come next?
Amy’s actor/brother Mark Huberman has had a successful career of his own with starring roles in films like Band of Brothers and Woman in the Wall.
Amy is also a flourishing author. One of her most recent works include a book entitled The Day I Got Trapped in my Brain – THE BOY WHO MADE THE WORLD DISAPPEAR, with Amy saying about the experience “I loved the process and I will write another for sure but for now I’m concentrating on TV writing for the next while. It’s new for me but I’m really enjoying it. The project is comedy though, so not in the same vein as the legal or murder mysteries. It’s great to mix it up though and have the opportunity to traverse these different worlds.”
Amy was asked to perform a voice role in the animated Screen Ireland-backed Puffin Rock and the News Friends, released in April of 2024, and she appears in the upcoming Flora & Son alongside Eve Hewson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film was purchased by Apple for $20million out of the Sundance Film Festival in January 2024.
Interesting to note that both Amy and Brian were invited to Prince William and Kate’s wedding in 2011 at Westminster Abbey. However due to commitments as rugby team captain, Brian had to decline as he was preparing for a Heineken Cup semi-final clash against Toulouse, France. Amy represented them both, attendeding the ceremony by herself wearing a cute and tasteful bright pink knee length dress.
Amy has fetching blue eyes and wavy golden-blonde hair. She stands a trim 5’4″ and has been married to Irish Rugby sensation Brian O’Driscoll since July 2, 2010. The couple met at a popular pub called Cafe En Seine in 2005 where they shared their first kiss. She and Brian took their vows at St. Joseph’s Church, Aughavas, Co. Leitrim, Ireland. They held their reception at nearby Lough Rynn Castle and her wedding dress was designed by Stephanie Allin. Gave birth to her 1st child at age 33, a daughter Sadie Huberman O’Driscoll on February 10, 2013. Amy and Brian O’Driscoll live in Rathmines, area of Dublin where they look after their family which has increased in size by two boys – Billy O’Driscoll and Ted O’Driscoll! The O’Dricoll’s are now multi-millionares allowing them to try new ways of sharing their personal story.
