Caitríona Balfe

Born on October 4, 1979, in Dublin, Ireland the gorgeous and talented Irish actress Caitríona Balfe grew up in the village of Tydavnet, in County Monaghan. She held onto her Irish background and has proudly represented her Irish heritage throughout her career. And if you haven’t yet seen her in the television series Outlander” you should do so tonight because it is fantastic!

Growing up her father was a Garda and Caitríona was raised in a large family as one of seven siblings. In her influential middle school years, her father insisted on books over television, so she immersed herself in the classics which may have led to her passion for acting and modeling.

Balfe started modeling at the age of 19 after she was scouted by an agent while she was collecting money for charity at a local mall. Her career in runway modeling was enviable and Balfe achieved considerable success, working with renowned brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, DKNY, Burberry, Dior, Louis Vuitton, H&M, Marc Jacobs, Valentino, Cacharel, Roberto Cavalli, Givenchy, Hugo Boss, Armani, Dries van Noten, Calvin Klein and Chanel and graced the covers of Vogue and Elle. She was also one of the Victoria’s Secret’s angels. However, her true passion was acting, and she eventually made the transition to pursue it full-time.

Balfe is best known for her role as Claire Fraser in the mondo hit television series “Outlander,” based on the book series by Diana Gabaldon. In the show, Balfe portrays a time-traveling Englishwoman who becomes deeply involved in the Scottish Jacobite movement in the 18th century. Outlander has won Peoples Choice as well as Critics awards and nominated for a remarkable four Golden Globe awards.

In addition to her acting career, Balfe speaks English, Irish and French. She’s an ambassador for UNICEF and has also been involved in promoting Irish culture and supporting various charitable causes in Ireland and World Child Cancer.

On 10 August 2019, Balfe married her longtime boyfriend, Scottish band manager Anthony “Tony” McGill. She announced on 18 August 2021 that she had given birth to their son. Understandably, for privacy reasons, Balfe has not revealed her son’s name publicly.

Again it’s worth mentioning, Caitríona Balfe continues to have a deep connection with her Irish background and has been an influential figure both in the entertainment industry and in advocating for important causes she care most about.
