Aidan Turner
Aidan Turner is an Irish actor known for his work in film, television, and theater. He was born on June 19, 1983, in Clondalkin, Dublin, Ireland to his parents Patrick Turner and Eileen Turner. Aidan has an older brother named Colin.
Turner completed his secondary education at St. Mac Dara’s Community College in Templeogue before transferring to Firhouse Community College to study with his older brother, Colin. “I probably wasn’t a terrific student”, Turner has admitted.
Turner was an accomplished ballroom dancer before becoming an actor, placing third in the adult division of the Irish National Championships once. He briefly assisted his Father as an apprentice electrician after completing his secondary education.
Aidan graduated from the Gaiety School of Acting in 2004, where he appeared in a number of stage productions, many with Ireland’s national theatre, The Abbey. Stage productions included The Plough & The Stars, Romeo & Juliet, and A Cry from Heaven. In 2008, Turner made the jump to feature films and television with a lead role in the film Alarm and a co-starring role in the popular Irish TV drama The Clinic. After many accolades and accomplishments in both theatre and television, director Peter Jackson reached out to Aidan and cast him in the role of Kili for the Hobbit trilogy in 2011.
Here are some of his notable roles:
- The Hobbit Trilogy (2012-2014): Aidan Turner portrayed the dwarf Kíli in Peter Jackson’s film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit.” His performance in this fantasy epic helped him gain international fame.
- Poldark (2015-2019): Aidan Turner played the lead role of Captain Ross Poldark in the British historical drama series “Poldark.” The series, set in the late 18th century, follows the life and adventures of Ross Poldark in Cornwall, England.
- Being Human (2009-2013): Before “Poldark,” Turner was known for his role as the vampire John Mitchell in the British supernatural drama series “Being Human.” He appeared in the show’s first three series.
- The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot (2018): Aidan Turner had a role in this independent film, where he played the younger version of the film’s protagonist, Calvin Barr.
- And Then There Were None (2015): He also appeared in the British television mini-series adaptation of Agatha Christie’s mystery novel “And Then There Were None.”
Aidan Turner has received critical acclaim for his performances and has a tremendous fan following. Even though Turner wooed the ladies with every Poldark episode, he still considers his mother the most important woman. He is renowned for his versatility as an actor and has worked in various genres, from fantasy to historical drama. At this time his net worth is over $4.5 million but this is only an estimate and our guess is it is very likely higher.
