Sex and the City Cosmopolitan
It is believed that this particularly alluring cocktail was hatched from a 1990s HBO tv series. “Sex and the City” had featured this brilliant-pink, Martini-style quaff in an episode and it soon made a regular guest appearance in the series. Prop or not, the Cosmopolitan was rolled out during the show’s second season and made it into all succeeding episodes.
Today the cosmopolitan or cosmo as its better known continues to be a popular drink option but nowhere near its pinnacle where it had climaxed during the decade of Sex and the City.
As to who actually created the original concoction? Well, it is believed to have taken place in 1985 in the heart of the city of Miami by a bartender at a bustling South Beach bar known to locals as the Strand. Another story tips the hat to a bartender at New York’s Rockefeller Center Rainbow Room.
Order a Cosmopolitan on your next night out or make one at home. Then sit back, reward yourself by taking that first sip and you might just imagine Carrie Bradshaw in that memorable opening scene making her way through a busy NYC intersection complete with fluffy reddish-blonde hair, pink top, tutu dress, matching pink clutch and heels…or better yet take one along on a Sex and the City tour next time you’re in NYC.
