Island Mule aka Ginger Sea Dog
There you find yourself floating on a boat in the British Virgin Islands and someone from below asks “say captain, what’ll you have to drink?”. Quickly, you think Pain Killer, Pina Colada or anything plus Rum. A snappy response from you the 2nd officer would be “how about an Island Mule” as you reach for the telescope and look for your next island landing. The drink suggestion bounces around in your head and quickly pull away from the telescope and respond with a jolly response “brilliant idea”!
Also known as the Ginger Sea Dog, the Island Mule is a hearty drink that came to be in the tropic waters, where rum is plentiful and so are sailors. It’s a drink with a really cool name. Similar to a Moscow Mule, just swap out the Vodka for a good Rum.
This drink has a refreshing and tangy flavor, with the sweetness and spiciness of ginger beer perfectly complementing the tartness of the lime and the sweet clean taste of rum. So Ladies & Gentlemen, without further adieu, here’s the recipe:
Ingredients
- 2 ounces Rum
- 6 ounces Ginger Beer
- Angostura Bitters
- Lime Wedge
Directions
- Place ice into a mug or mule mug.
- Add rum and ginger beer.
- Squeeze lime wedge over top of drink and drop into the glass.
- Stir briefly. Add Angostura bitters and serve.
You can adjust the amount of ginger beer to your preference, depending on how strong you like your cocktails.
